What is MicroDentistry?
Aschacher Family Dentistry practices a philosophy of dentistry called
MicroDentistry. This is the practice of finding
and treating decay as early as possible, of removing as little tooth structure
as possible, of making the smallest possible restorations (fillings),
and of assuring that those restorations are asthetically pleasing and
long lasting.
To do this a process called Air Abrasion is used to remove the decay
and prepare the tooth for restoration.
What is Air Abrasion?
Air Abrasion is a gentle spray of an air-and-powder
mist that removes tooth decay. One of the advantages of this revolutionary
process is that by controlling the speed and the intensity of both the
powder and the air, your dentist can make the procedure virtually
painless. In most cases a shot is not necessary. This mean
that you will not have numb or drooping lips after your dental procedure.
The art and science of dentistry have changed, offering a no needle, no
drill, no fear procedure for removing decay.
Because Air Abrasion uses a very small beam of powder Dr. Aschacher is
able to be much more precise then with a dental drill. This means that
less of your healthy tooth structure needs to be removed.
Perfect for Children As Well As Adults
Air Abrasion is perfect for children. Most
cavities that are detected early can be treated immediately, without a
drill and without a needle. The tooth is then restored with natural looking
materials to strengthen and protect the remaining tooth structure. Most
children aren't even aware what the dentist is doing.
Fewer dental appointments are usually required because with Air Abrasion
many more procedures can be completed in a single appointment.
Many people fear the dentist until they experience the gentle process
of Air Abrasion and Microdentistry.
