Orlando Cosmetic Dentist

Dentistry is the branch of medicine that involves studying, diagnosing, preventing, and treating diseases, disorders, and conditions in the oral cavity, maxillofacial area, and adjacent and associated structures, and their impact on the human body. It is considered necessary for overall health. Many people fear the dentist, but when you pick the right one you have nothing to worry about. Dr. Aschacher and his staff of dental assistants, dental hygienists, dental technicians, and dental therapists work together to provide excellent dental care to you and your family. They strive to provide you with not only clinical excellence, but also concern and clear communication as they take care of your mouth.

Dentistry began thousands of years ago, with evidence of dentistry being practiced as far back as 7000 BC in the Indus Valley civilization. This early form of dentistry involved curing tooth related disorders with bow drills. From there, Sumerian texts from 5000 BC describe "tooth worms" that could cause dental problems, and dentistry is also denoted in India, Egypt, Japan, and China during this time. In fact, famous Greek scholars including Hippocrates and Aristotle wrote about dentistry, including the treatment of decaying teeth and gum disease. As time progressed the advancements in dentistry grew even more. Now, dentistry usually focuses on the prevention and treatment of the two most common oral diseases - dental caries which is also known as tooth decay, and periodontal disease, which can manifest itself as gum disease or pyorrhea. Most often, treatment for these involves restoring the teeth with fillings, or extracting and surgically removing teeth which cannot be restored. Today, dentists carry out a wide variety of dental treatments, including restorative (fillings, crowns, or bridges), prosthetic (dentures), endodonic therapy (root canals), periodontal therapy (for gums), and exodontia (the extraction of teeth), as well as examinations, radiographs and x-rays, and diagnosis. Dentists are also responsible for prescribing medication to manage the patients including antibiotics, sedatives, and other drugs.
