Dr. Aschacher strongly recomends that his patience have a regular dental cleaning performed by a certified dental hygienist every 6 months. Regular cleanings not only reinforce your home oral health regiment, they also give your dentist an oportunity to other areas in the mouth that may need attention.

Using special instruments, a dental hygienist will scrape below the gumline, removing built-up plaque and tartar that can cause gum disease, cavities, bad breath and other problems. Your dentist or hygienist may also polish and floss your teeth.

Current studies show that nearly 50% of the U.S. population does not receive regular preventive dental care. That's unfortunate because recent studies show bacteria that cause gum disease may also lead to other more serious problems, including cardiovascular disease, a weakened immune system, and a higher risk of having a premature, low-birth weight infant.
